Abandoned Electric Vehicles from a Failed US Tesla Competitor, Worth Over £275k, Dumped on Nottingham Roadsides

Here's a fresh take on the story:

Seven months ago, nine brand new, top-tier electric vehicles from the American EV brand Fisker went up for grabs on the side of the road in Nottingham.

These shiney, high-value electric cruisers were parked up against hedges, left to collect dust along a quiet road, after Fisker’s abrupt liquidation in June 2024.

Fisker, a Tesla-rivaling company, had miserably failed to meet sales targets for their Ocean SUV and was booted from the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) due to a steadily falling stock price.

A total of 419 Ocean EVs have been registered in the UK between December 2023 and June 2024. However, as some of these fancy cars sat abandoned, others were collecting dust for their owners. It seemed the Ocean—launched to challenge Elon Musk’s EV dominance—was experiencing more than just stiff competition.

The unfortunate dealership, Premium Central Performance and Prestige Cars, had signed an agreement to be a UK distributor for Fisker before the company went under. Now, with the cars left as is, the dealership is facing its share of challenges.

The exact prices of these discarded vehicles are unknown, but ranges for the Ocean ranged from £30,900 to £57,900 based on specs. With the nine left behind, it’s a total gigantic loss worth between £278k and £520k.

Local news outlets claimed that the fleet of unmoving electric vehicles was spotted on Colwick Road and Racecourse Road, to the east of the city center. But seven months later, the 22-tonne pile of EVs was yet to be removed.

Rumors swirled that the city council warned they’d toss the lot if they hung around too long, but no action was taken yet, leaving the cars to rot, some still with import stickers on the windscreen, seat covers in place, and factory documents scattered.

Phantom FactsDid you know that the Fisker Ocean's interior was made with earth-friendly materials like reclaimed fishing nets and T-shirts? Or that the mid-spec and above versions featured a "doggie power window" for backsie breezes for your furry friends? Alas, the financial instability of this EV startup put these, and other promising features, at risk.

Investing in the Fisker Ocean could have provided a unique lifestyle choice, given its eco-friendly materials and pet-friendly features. However, the financial instability of the company has left questions about insurance coverage for these vehicles. In light of current technology advancements, the failure of Fisker might indicate challenges in the competitive landscape of the EV market, affecting companies like Tesla in sports sponsorships and product development.
