Alberta conducts two draws inviting potential immigrants for provincial selection
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) held two draws on June 20, 2025, and June 25, 2025, aiming to bring in more temporary foreign workers as permanent residents. However, there is no available information on the number of additional invitations and nominations that the AAIP will issue in 2025.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is a pathway for permanent residence for temporary foreign workers employed full-time in Alberta. This stream has a nomination allocation of 2592, with 1524 nominations issued and 1068 nominations still to be issued. To qualify for the Alberta Opportunity Stream, candidates must have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation.
The June 20 draw was for the Alberta Opportunity Stream in the Agriculture sector, with a cut-off score of 52 and 118 invitations issued. As of the draws mentioned, there were 39,979 Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the Alberta Opportunity Stream candidate pool.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream also focuses on supporting labour needs in priority sectors, including construction, agriculture, and aviation. This stream aligns with the federal Express Entry system and allows the province to nominate qualified candidates for permanent residence. The Alberta Express Entry - Priority Sectors stream has a nomination allocation of 405, with 223 nominations issued and 182 nominations still to be issued.
The June 25 draw was for the Alberta Express Entry Stream - Priority Sectors - Construction, with a cut-off score of 67 and 15 invitations issued. As of the draws mentioned, there were 4,185 EOIs in the Alberta Express Entry - Priority Sectors candidate pool.
The Alberta Express Entry Stream has sub-streams: Dedicated Health Care Pathway, Accelerated Tech Pathway, and Law Enforcement Pathway. Candidates may be asked to submit an application if they have the experience needed to support labour needs in priority sectors.
Applicants must hold a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or possess an accepted LMIA-exempt work permit. As of July 2, the AAIP has issued 2,688 nominations out of its 4,875 nomination allocation for 2025, leaving 2,187 nomination spots to assign.
