Alcatraz unveils over 15 biometric enhancements for its platform, including Rock devices.

The Alcatraz platform and device update, released on July 28, 2025, brings over a dozen new features to critical infrastructure, corporate campuses, and high-security industries. This update focuses on enhancing biometric security, privacy, and operational efficiency.

Key features of the update include:

  1. Adaptive Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): This new feature allows trusted individuals, such as VIPs or high-clearance personnel, to access with face-only authentication. For others, 2FA is required, intelligently tailored at the profile level.
  2. Enhanced Tailgating Detection: The AI-powered tailgating detection is now built directly into the Rock and Rock X facial biometric devices. This improves accuracy and eliminates the need for separate sensors, ensuring security without disrupting authorized user flow.
  3. Opt-In Biometric Processing: Biometric matching is now restricted to pre-enrolled cardholders only, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
  4. Custom Consent Capture: Customers can integrate their own DocuSign accounts to capture biometric consent, applicable for both cloud and on-premises deployments.
  5. SIP-Based Voice Intercom Support: The Rock X device now supports two-way voice communication through SIP protocols, fully integrated with existing intercom systems.
  6. Enterprise Workflow Integrations: Enhanced support for RightCrowd PIAM and on-premises web enrollment with SMTP control streamlines enterprise operations.

In addition to these features, improvements have been made in visitor management and security event logging. Enhancements in visitor automation, event logging, reader group persistence, and real-time provisioning visibility further strengthen security and simplify administration.

The updates emphasize privacy-first identity handling and demonstrate Alcatraz's focus on evolving their security platform to meet advanced physical access control challenges while easing administration for integrators and end users.

  1. The Adaptive Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) technology, included in the Alcatraz platform and device update, offers privilege to VIPs or high-clearance personnel to access with face-only authentication, while requiring 2FA for others intelligently tailored at the profile level.
  2. The enhanced security offered by the Alcatraz update is evident in the new feature of Opt-In Biometric Processing, which ensures that biometric matching is restricted to pre-enrolled cardholders only, adhering to privacy regulations.
