Alleged Upgrade for Qualcomm Snapdragon X2: Whispers Suggest 50% More CPU Cores, Potential for 18 Cores and 64GB RAM in Testing Phases

Scoop: Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Elite to Pack a Punch with up to 64GB RAM

Gadget gurus are buzzing about Qualcomm's latest beast, the Snapdragon X2 Elite. Tech insider Roland Quandt, known for his exclusives via WinFuture.de, recently dished that Qualcomm has been running tests with this monster sporting 64GB of mighty RAM. He's even confident that the Oryon V3 CPU architecture, housing a whopping 18 cores, will be part of the package.

PC fanboys are keeping their fingers crossed that Qualcomm has taken heed of its initial Snapdragon X Elite fiasco. Last June, the tech titan teamed up with Microsoft to champion Copilot PCs utilising Oryon architecture processors. However, interest took a nosedive as AMD and Intel promptly responded with energy-efficient AI/NPU-augmented laptop chips.

The last we heard about the elusive SC8480XP was way back in March. At the time, it was rumoured this upgrade would double the CPU core count compared to the first-gen Snapdragon X Elite, and offer its own performance boost. There's also chatter about Qualcomm's intentions to conquer the desktop market or even servers, with hints of the SC8480XP being tested in conjunction with advanced cooling solutions, such as a 120mm radiator-loaded AiO. That'd be a major power shift indeed!

On the memory front, the SC8480XP was previously being readied for action in Qualcomm's SiP format with 48GB RAM aboard and a 1TB SSD storage. Recent intel suggests up to 64GB of RAM might be on the cards.

Get Ready for the Drop: September 2025

Quandt spilled the beans at Computex 2025 and seemed to have an inside scoop on the upcoming SC8480XP configurations. But remember, until we hear it straight from the horse's mouth—that is, Qualcomm or a device partner—take those leaks with a grain of salt.

Since we skipped Computex without so much as a peep about the Snapdragon X2 Elite, or whatever it could be dubbed as Suzanne Somers' best friend, we're most likely looking at Qualcomm's Summit 2025 in September for the unveiling of its next-gen processors. We're holding our breath for design concepts that device partners have rustled up to peddle these stunning Windows-on-Arm devices.
