Alpha Trains Expands Fleet with 15 Siemens Vectron Dual-Mode Locomotives
Alpha Trains has expanded its fleet with an order of 15 Vectron Dual-Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The deal, part of a 2024 framework agreement, will see the new locomotives produced in Munich-Allach and used in Germany and Austria.
The Vectron Dual-Mode, capable of operating on both electrified and non-electrified tracks, combines the benefits of diesel and electric locomotives. With a maximum power output of 2.4 megawatts in electric mode and 2 megawatts in diesel mode, these locomotives can reach speeds up to 160 km/h.
Production will commence at Siemens Mobility's Munich-Allach plant, with deliveries starting in 2025. Alpha Trains' Vincent Pouyet sees this expansion as a step towards intelligent and sustainable solutions. Siemens Mobility's Andre Rodenbeck expressed pleasure in Alpha Trains' decision to order more of these versatile locomotives.
The service contract signed in 2023 between Alpha Trains and Siemens Mobility also covers the maintenance of the newly ordered Vectron. This order, part of a 2024 framework agreement, demonstrates Alpha Trains' commitment to modern, efficient, and sustainable rail transport.
