Altered Image of Rahul Gandhi Alongside Zakir Naik Revealed as Artificial Intelligence Alteration

In recent days, a viral photo has been circulating on social media platforms, allegedly showing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi meeting Islamic preacher Zakir Naik in Malaysia. However, a closer look at the facts reveals that this image is a deepfake.

The viral photo, which carries a 'ChatGPT' watermark at the bottom-right corner, was not a genuine representation of a meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Zakir Naik. The image of Rahul Gandhi used in the viral photo was actually taken from an event in London where he interacted with the Indian Journalists Association in March 2025.

The original photo used in the deepfake was not taken during a meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Zakir Naik. Instead, it was a picture of Zakir Naik and his son meeting the Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Ahmad bin Hamad Al-Khalili. This original photo was published by several media outlets in 2023.

AI-detection tools such as Hive have flagged the viral photo as deepfake content. Comparison reveals that the viral photo was digitally altered using AI. The search results do not provide the name of the person who created the manipulated photo.

It is important to note that the claim made in the viral post that Rahul Gandhi met Zakir Naik in Malaysia is false. The available evidence indicates that the viral photo does not depict a real event involving Rahul Gandhi and Zakir Naik meeting in Malaysia.

In an era where misinformation and disinformation are rampant, it is crucial to verify the authenticity of information before sharing it. This incident serves as a reminder to be vigilant and to fact-check before believing and spreading information.
