Apple's AI Ambitions Hindered by Key Researcher Exodus to Meta
Apple is expanding its AI capabilities, exploring both in-house models and third-party integrations. However, the tech giant faces challenges with key AI researchers leaving for Meta.
Apple is delving into AI development, working on its own models and considering integrating external ones like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Anthropic's Claude into future Siri versions.
However, Apple's AI plans have hit a snag. Meta has lured away five prominent AI researchers from Apple, including the former head of Apple's foundation models group, Ruoming Pang. Pang was reportedly offered a $200 million compensation package. Other recruits include Yun Zhu, Robby Walker, Mark Lee, and Tom Gunter, all joining Meta's Superintelligence Labs. This exodus could delay Apple's AI advancements.
Apple's AI ambitions are clear, with in-house models and third-party integrations on the horizon. However, the departure of key AI researchers to Meta may pose challenges and potential delays in Apple's AI plans.
