Apple's Live Translation Launches Sept 15, Breaking Language Barriers
Apple has launched a new feature, Live Translation, designed to simplify communication abroad by breaking down language barriers. Available from September 15th, 2025, this feature is integrated across iMessage, FaceTime, and phone calls, and can be used hands-free with AirPods.
Live Translation is compatible with AirPods 4, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods Pro 2, iPhone 15 Pro and later models, and devices running iOS 26 or later. Users can activate this feature by downloading languages ahead of time and using Siri or pressing the AirPod stems. Currently, it supports English, Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese, with more languages planned.
By the end of 2025, Apple aims to add support for Italian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. The feature translates speech and text to a target language in real-time, making conversations across languages more seamless. However, it's important to note that the feature is currently in beta mode, with some users reporting translation discrepancies and slower conversation progress.
Live Translation is a significant step towards facilitating global communication. With its current and planned language support, it promises to make travel and international interactions more accessible. As the feature continues to develop, users can expect improvements in accuracy and speed.
