Artificial Intelligence Integration in myVW App, Powered by Google Cloud, Introduces Virtual Assistant for 2025 Atlas and Models From 2020 Onwards
Volkswagen of America, Inc. (VWGoA) has partnered with Google Cloud to revolutionize the vehicle ownership experience with the launch of the myVW Virtual Assistant. This innovative feature, available within the myVW mobile app, uses Google Cloud's generative AI to provide an interactive, cognitive manual that allows users to ask questions about their Volkswagen vehicles and receive instant, intelligent responses.
Cognitive Manual and Virtual Assistant
The myVW Virtual Assistant serves as a personalized guide for users, answering questions about their specific vehicle model. From details on features and operation guidance to vehicle status inquiries, the assistant delivers AI-powered answers tailored to the user's vehicle.
Connected Car Functions
The myVW app offers remote control of various vehicle features, including locking and unlocking doors, remote engine start (if equipped), flashing lights, and horn activation. This enables users to manage their vehicle remotely, making daily tasks more convenient.
Vehicle Status and Health Monitoring
The myVW Virtual Assistant provides real-time access to essential vehicle data such as mileage, fuel/battery status, consumption, and trip information. For electric vehicles, users can monitor battery status, manage charging, and control climate settings remotely.
Family Guardian Features
The app includes safety and monitoring alerts when others drive the car, with speed, curfew, valet, and boundary alerts. These features aim to provide peace of mind for owners by keeping them informed about their vehicle's usage.
Service Scheduling and Dealer Connectivity
Users can find and select preferred Volkswagen dealers, schedule maintenance services, and view service history through the app. This streamlines the service process, making it easier for owners to maintain their vehicles.
Partnership with Google Cloud
By leveraging Google Cloud's AI and machine learning capabilities, the myVW Virtual Assistant significantly improves customer engagement. The collaboration aims to bring valuable technology into Volkswagen vehicles, successfully connecting with customers. Google Cloud Consulting provided expertise throughout the app development process, from design to deployment.
Volkswagen is utilizing Google Cloud's Vertex AI and BigQuery to ground and tune Gemini models on multiple data sources, including vehicle owner's manuals, frequently asked questions from customers, help center articles, official Volkswagen YouTube videos, and step-by-step guides. myVW app users can also use Gemini's multi-modal capabilities to view helpful information about indicator lights by pointing their smartphone cameras at their dashboards.

Abdallah Shanti, Chief Information Officer for Volkswagen Group of America, added that the goal is to enhance the ownership experience and create love for Volkswagen vehicles. Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, stated that the myVW Virtual Assistant sets a new standard for driver experiences.
The myVW Virtual Assistant is currently available for My24 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicle owners. The myVW app is available on both the Apple Store and the Google Play Store. Starting in 2025, the Virtual Assistant will be available for most MY20 and newer Volkswagen vehicle owners. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in integrating AI technology into the automotive industry, making vehicle ownership more intuitive and convenient for Volkswagen customers.
