Autonomous vehicle manufacturer GAC set to reveal innovative extended-range technology on August 19.
On August 19, Chinese automaker GAC Group will unveil a groundbreaking extended-range system called "Xingyuan" for Electric Range Extended Vehicles (EREVs). This technology is designed to revolutionise the EREV experience, addressing common issues such as insufficient power, high fuel consumption, and noticeable noise and vibration[1].
The Xingyuan system, meaning "star source", is equipped with an in-house developed range extender engine that boasts industry-leading power generation and fuel-to-electricity conversion efficiency[1]. This engine is integrated with an AI energy control platform to optimise energy use and enhance the system's efficiency and responsiveness[2].
One of the key features of Xingyuan is its ability to improve Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH) characteristics, delivering a smoother, quieter driving experience when the battery is low and the range extender is active[2]. When the battery is depleted to low levels, the Xingyuan system ensures vehicles have abundant power by efficiently converting fuel via the range extender to electric power. This enables the vehicle to maintain strong power output without feeling the typical power drop-off, as well as reducing fuel consumption and noise during this phase[1][4].
For instance, in the Hyptec HL EREV model equipped with the Xingyuan system, the fuel consumption is quite low (3.3 liters per 100 km for an A-class sedan) even when relying heavily on the range extender, and the overall electric range with a full tank and battery reaches up to 1,369 km[1][4].
GAC is expected to launch more EREV models, including extended-range versions of the A8 sedan and the Aion V. The Hyptec HL SUV was launched with both Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and EREV variants, and the EREV version will go on sale on August 19[1][3].
Moreover, GAC's extended-range system is expected to redefine the driving experience of EREVs. The Hyptec HL EREV is equipped with a 60-kWh CATL ternary battery pack and features a battery pack with a capacity of up to 66 kWh[1][3].
In addition, our X (Twitter) profilepeng has filed for a hybrid variant of its our X (Twitter) profile9 MPV, set to be launched in Q4[1].
