FBI awards Leidos $129.7 million contract for biometric services support
Leidos, a leading provider of science and technology solutions, has secured a significant contract from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to support the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division's Fingerprint Analysis Support Team (FAST) Biometric Services program. The contract, valued at approximately $129.7 million, spans five and a half years.
The primary objective of this contract is to modernize and enhance the FBI's biometric identification capabilities. Leidos will work in collaboration with the CJIS Division to incorporate agile methodologies and development operations into the software development process. This partnership aims to build on the strong working relationship between the two entities that became established in 2018.
Leidos has been a critical partner in advancing federal law enforcement technology infrastructure. The company has already been working with CJIS since 2018, contributing to the development of the Next Generation Identification (NGI) system. This system, a state-of-the-art biometric identification system, features the Repository for Individuals of Special Concerns and Rap Back, which provides notifications of criminal activity for individuals in positions of public trust.
This latest contract further solidifies Leidos' role as a key player in the FBI's efforts to improve biometric identification services. By incorporating agile methodology and development operations concepts into its work with CJIS, Leidos has managed to increase collaboration between development and testing teams.
