BMW USA Sales Surge 24% in Q3 Despite End of i3, 6 Series Production
BMW USA has reported remarkable sales of two models in the third quarter of 2022, despite production of these vehicles having ceased. The i3 and 6 Series Gran Turismo, both sold as residual stock, contributed to a 24% increase in sales.
The i3, a hatchback that started at $45,445, was produced for nine years before ending in June 2022. Despite its discontinuation, a previously unsold unit was sold in the US during the quarter. Meanwhile, the 6 Series Gran Turismo, priced at $71,295, was last sold by BMW USA in 2020. Although production continued until 2023 in Dingolfing and 2024 in Chennai, a 'new' 6 Series Gran Turismo was sold in the US in Q3.
This surge in sales, which totalled 96,886 units, marks a 24% increase for BMW USA. While these sales were likely of leftover stock, they highlight the enduring appeal of these models and the brand's resilience in the market.
The sale of residual i3 and 6 Series Gran Turismo models contributed to BMW USA's strong third quarter. Despite production endings, these vehicles found buyers, demonstrating the brand's enduring popularity. Looking ahead, the i3 badge will return with an electric 3 Series next year.
