BMW's iX3 Model Uses Digital Replacement for Traditional Climate Control Buttons, with the Latest iDrive X System Taking Over

The BMW Neue Klasse iX3, the latest addition to BMW's lineup, showcases the company's increased focus on digitalization. One of the most noticeable changes is the redesigned climate control system, which is primarily operated via the touchscreen on the Control Display with BMW Operating System 9 or through voice commands.

The new system offers a significantly less cluttered interface compared to the previous model, the BMW X3 (G45). The door-mounted controls, particularly the unintuitive and flimsy-feeling slider for adjusting airflow direction, have been replaced with screen-mounted climate controls. This upgrade might be a step up for users seeking a more modern and user-friendly experience.

In the Neue Klasse iX3, all climate control adjustments are made through the iDrive X system. This includes the direction of airflow, a feature that can now be adjusted on the screen. Interestingly, there are no physical backup options for climate control adjustments, a decision that may reflect BMW's confidence in the system's ease of use.

The climate control menu can be accessed from nearly anywhere in the operating system, making it convenient for drivers to make adjustments as needed. Voice commands can be used to tweak most settings, which could be particularly useful for drivers wearing gloves in colder climates, as the Neue Klasse iX3's Routines feature is designed to accommodate such drivers.

This feature automates the process of activating heated seats and steering wheel, as well as setting climate control settings. The Routines feature can be combined with automatic climate control, reducing the need for climate control adjustments during a drive.

Despite the lack of vent control in iDrive X, it doesn't seem to be a significant concern for users. The only climate control feature that still has a physical button is rear window heating and defrosting, a decision likely made to ensure quick and easy access to this essential function.

The Neue Klasse iX3's climate control system redefines what high-tech means when it comes to sitting behind a steering wheel. With its streamlined interface, convenient voice commands, and automated features, it offers a modern and efficient experience for drivers seeking a seamless and comfortable journey.
