Bolt Drive Revamps German Fleet with Hybrid Toyotas; VW Dismisses 500 Over Misconduct; Mercedes-Benz Actros Gets Five-Star Safety Rating

Bolt Drive is revamping its German carsharing fleet with hybrid Toyota models, starting with 400 vehicles. Meanwhile, Volkswagen Group has dismissed over 500 employees due to misconduct, and Mercedes-Benz Actros has received a five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP.

Bolt Drive is leading the way in sustainable carsharing. The company is replacing its fleet with hybrid Toyota models, starting with 400 vehicles. This switch is expected to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by around 35 percent.

In other news, Volkswagen Group has taken stern action against misconduct. Over 500 employees, primarily from the Wolfsburg site, have been dismissed following internal investigations into alleged abuse. This includes unexcused absences and fraudulent claims of short-time work benefits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mercedes-Benz Actros has achieved a significant milestone in safety. The heavy truck has received a five-star rating from Euro NCAP, highlighting its commitment to passenger safety. Euro NCAP will expand its safety tests for trucks to include crash tests in 2028, reflecting the high accident relevance of these vehicles.

Mazda is also making strides in sustainability. The company is introducing a gas-powered combined heat and power system that can be operated with hydrogen in the long term. Mazda has also revised its roadmap to CO2 neutrality, aiming to reduce emissions in Japanese plants and offices by 46 percent by 2030.

Ford has introduced a practical accessory for its electric models. A retrofittable frunk tray is now available for the Explorer and Capri, priced at €150.
