Boris FX Silhouette Marks Two Decades of Innovation by Introducing Equipped 3D and AI Technologies
In a significant milestone, Boris FX has unveiled its latest release, Silhouette 2025, marking the company's 20th anniversary. This new version introduces several AI-driven features aimed at streamlining and refining digital painting and rotoscoping workflows.
One of the key updates is the integration of AI tools for mask refining. These tools are designed to improve precision and efficiency in rotoscoping tasks, offering artists a more streamlined experience.
The software now includes AI capabilities for generating depth maps, which can significantly aid in depth-based compositing and visual effects. Additionally, AI-driven tools have been introduced to fix glitches in footage, ensuring smoother and more polished final outputs.
A new 'single-click' AI tool allows users to generate masks directly from source footage, significantly reducing the time spent on the rotoscoping process. Enhanced annotation tools provide better organization and communication during the rotoscoping process.
Silhouette 2025 also features a powerful 3D environment, enabling users to create Projected 3D Cards. This revolutionizes paint and compositing workflows, offering a more immersive and versatile experience.
The 3D Scene node allows users to load Alembic or FBX format scenes directly into Silhouette, integrating a heavy-hitting 3D workflow for high-production values. The Unproject/Reproject node decouples motion from a 3D Scene node, effectively stabilizing the motion.
Compound nodes in Silhouette 2025 enable artists to merge selected nodes into a single, combined node with parameters grouped by node within the Parameters window.
Notable assets associated with Silhouette 2025 include Frame Fixer ML, which uses AI to remove and restore photo flaws such as flashes, artifacts, dropped frames, or alter performances. Other assets include The Branding Toolkit, What's New, Fast Cleanups & Insert with 3D Scene, Reveal Fine Hair Detail with Matte Refine MLS, Generate Automated Depth Maps, and Reduce Manual Paint Work with PowerMesh Morph.
The PowerMesh Morph feature allows artists to morph between painted keyframes or specified frames using Mocha Pro's sub-planar PowerMesh tracking.
Silhouette 2025 is available as a standalone application and/or plugin, with various pricing options including monthly and annual subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and permanent licenses. Customers with active Silhouette subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, or the Boris FX Suite subscription receive the 2025 release as a complimentary update.
