Carbon wheelsets from DT Swiss are being withdrawn due to potential risks of catastrophic rim collapse.

DT Swiss, a well-known manufacturer of high-performance bicycle components, has announced a product recall for selected carbon wheelsets from the ERC, CRC, HEC, and ARC series. The recall follows a Stop-Use Notice released by the company on July 12, 2025.

The recall was issued due to a "small number of reported incidents" of a manufacturing issue that could potentially cause "spontaneous delamination in the rim flange area," leading to structural weakening and total rim failure. This issue is similar to those previously identified in the ERC/CRC/HEC models, despite no reported defects for the ARC series manufactured at the Vietnamese facility.

The affected wheels include models from the ARC, ERC, CRC, and HEC series with specific rim heights. For the ARC series, this includes models 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT and 1600 SPLINE with rim heights of 50mm, 55mm, and 65mm. For the ERC series, the affected models are 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT and 1600 SPLINE with rim heights of 35mm and 45mm, as well as the ERC LOG CLASSIC 45. The CRC series includes 1100 DICUT 45, 1400 and 1600 SPLINE with rim height of 35mm and/or 45mm, and the HEC series includes 1400 SPLINE with a rim height of 45mm.

It is important to note that the recall does not apply to ARC wheel models with rim heights of 38mm, 62mm, 80mm, and 85mm, or to all wheels manufactured at DT Swiss’s own facility in Poland. The affected wheels can be identified by a DT Swiss ID number greater than 2,750,000, found on a sticker between the spokes or on the rim tape. If the ID number is no longer visible, customers can email DT Swiss with the rim series number found under the rim tape for a manual search.

The recall affects wheels sold as both wheelsets and as components of complete bikes, and was issued “out of an abundance of caution,” following initial stop-ride notices and ongoing investigations by DT Swiss. The company will provide inspection and likely replacement options for affected owners.

Owners of affected wheels are advised to immediately check their serial numbers via DT Swiss’s website and follow recall instructions to prevent safety risks. The email address for inquiries is: [email protected].

| Model Series | Rim Heights Included in Recall | |--------------|-------------------------------| | ARC 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT | 50mm, 55mm, 65mm | | ARC 1600 SPLINE | 50mm, 55mm, 65mm | | ERC 1100, 1400, 1600 DICUT | 35mm, 45mm | | ERC 1600 SPLINE | 35mm, 45mm | | ERC LOG CLASSIC | 45mm | | CRC 1100 DICUT | 45mm | | CRC 1400, 1600 SPLINE | 35mm (and 45mm for some models) | | HEC 1400 SPLINE | 45mm |

The recall affects bicycle wheels delivered from August 1, 2024, onwards. The ID number is attached to the product with a tamper-proof sticker, in the form of a QR- or Dot-code, and as a 7-digit identification number. It is crucial for the safety of cyclists to follow the recall instructions and check their wheels for the affected models.

The recall extends to e-bikes equipped with wheels from the ARC, ERC, CRC, and HEC series, as technology advancements have made electric bikes more common. Sports enthusiasts are urged to stay informed about this issue, as faulty wheel components can impact bike performance and safety during competitive events or recreational rides.
