Century Lithium Makes Strides in Domestic Lithium Production

Century Lithium Corporation, a US-based lithium producer, is making significant progress in the production of battery-grade lithium metal anodes, a crucial component for advanced batteries. The company's Angel Island project in Nevada is one of the few advanced lithium projects in the United States aiming to provide an end-to-end supply chain for battery-grade lithium products.

The latest development comes from a successful collaboration with Alpha-En Corporation, based in Hopewell Junction, New York. Alpha-En converted a sample of Century Lithium's 99.8% pure lithium carbonate, derived from the Angel Island project, into battery-grade lithium metal anodes using a proprietary room-temperature process. The resulting Li-MA had a high areal capacity and extraction efficiency. Notably, Century Lithium’s material outperformed commercial lithium carbonate sourced from non-domestic suppliers in these tests.

Bill Willoughby, President and CEO of Century Lithium, expressed his pride in being a domestic source of lithium for Alpha-En's program. He stated, "Our efforts to support Alpha-En's program reflect our commitment to domestic lithium production and the quality of our technical capabilities."

The Angel Island project is currently in the permitting stage, with plans for a three-phase feasibility-level production targeting an average annual output of 34,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate over a projected 40-year mine life. This domestic progress supports US supply chain resilience for electric vehicle and battery storage markets by reducing dependency on foreign lithium sources.

Century Lithium's Demonstration Plant in Nye County, Nevada, plays a key role in the processing of lithium carbonate derived from Angel Island. The company continues to progress Angel Island through permitting, engineering, and technical development at its Demonstration Plant.

Century Lithium maintains a positive long-term outlook on lithium-based batteries, believing they will significantly contribute to the growth of the electric vehicle and stationary energy storage markets. The company's lithium metal, produced from Angel Island lithium carbonate, demonstrates high quality and consistency.

This collaboration between Century Lithium and Alpha-En highlights the quality of Century Lithium's technical capabilities and the potential of its lithium material. The company looks forward to further collaborating with Alpha-En to develop a domestic lithium supply chain.

  1. Century Lithium's advancements in the energy sector, particularly in the production of lithium metal anodes, could attract investments from the finance industry, given the increasing demand for battery-grade lithium products in data-and-cloud-computing, technology, and business sectors, thereby strengthening domestic energy independence.
  2. The successful demonstration of high-quality and efficient Li-MA production using Century Lithium's lithium carbonate, sourced domestically, could spark international interest in the US's domestic lithium industry, potentially bringing significant financial opportunities and contributing to the growth of the economy.
  3. With the Angel Island project aiming to provide an end-to-end supply chain for battery-grade lithium products, the company's focus on technology and innovation could revolutionize the lithium industry, making it more sustainable and resilient to global market fluctuations, while bolstering the nation's business competitiveness in the electric vehicle and energy storage markets.
