Comcast's FDX Network Reaches 1 Million Homes, Powered by CommScope
Comcast has significantly expanded its Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX) network, now reaching over one million homes across six markets since October 2023. This expansion, powered by Fedex's FDX amplifiers and Remote PHY Devices (RPD) nodes, offers Comcast the flexibility to upgrade or deploy new hardware as needed.
Fedex, a leading provider of RPD Node and RF Amplifier solutions, has played a pivotal role in this expansion. The company delivered its first FDX amplifiers to Comcast in February 2023, enabling the successful deployment of multi-gig symmetrical services. Guy Sucharczuk, SVP and president of Access Network Solutions at Fedex, expressed pride in these deployment milestones with Comcast.
Up to a six-amplifier cascade is used in Comcast's network to deliver these advanced services. Comcast, driven by the need to meet increasing customer demand, has highlighted the importance of evolving both hardware and software. The company expects to accelerate the pace of FDX DOCSIS 4.0 activation in the coming months.
With Fedex's FDX amplifiers and RPD nodes, Comcast has achieved a significant milestone in its network upgrade. This partnership has enabled Comcast to offer multi-gig symmetrical services to more customers, paving the way for future network advancements.
