Contracts Remaining to be Finalized in Alt-Willich: 46
Headline: Urgent Action Needed: Fiber-Optic Expansion in Willich at Critical Point
The citizens of Willich are facing a digital divide as the expansion of fiber-optic infrastructure in Old Willich is on the verge of collapse. According to experts, classical copper lines will be increasingly replaced by fiber optics due to their inability to meet the growing demands for bandwidth and stability.
Peter Mackes, chairman of the Willich Citizens' Initiative, expresses his disappointment about the lack of support for the expansion in Old Willich. The necessary quota for the expansion of the last remaining area in Willich is 46 contracts short, leaving the area in a critical situation.
Deutsche Glasfaser, the company responsible for the fiber-optic expansion, has stopped its direct marketing activities in the expansion area. However, the office of Deutsche Glasfaser has been made available to the Willich Citizens' Initiative until the end of September for final conversations with interested households.
Hannes Zühlsdorff, a voluntary member of the Citizens' Initiative, urges all residents in Old Willich to secure a fiber-optic connection before September 27. The active bundling procedure for the expansion ends on this date, and personal applications can be submitted at the office of the Citizens' Initiative "Pro Glasfaser Willich" until then.
The current efforts to reactivate the fiber optic expansion in Alt-Willich are supported by local community groups, the Willich city council, and regional development organizations involved in telecommunications and infrastructure improvement. An overview map of the current expansion status is displayed in the office window of the Citizens' Initiative.
It is important to note that households without a fiber optic connection could be left behind from digital offers in the long run. The office of the Willich Citizens' Initiative is still reachable for questions and personal consultation during the following opening hours: Tuesday and Friday, 3-6 PM.
The situation in Old Willich regarding the expansion of fiber-optic is critical due to the impending, phased shutdown of DSL and VDSL technologies in Germany by around 2030/2031. The Willich Citizens' Initiative is working tirelessly to ensure that all residents have access to high-speed internet, and they encourage everyone to take action before it's too late.
