Amcor and Coveris Introduce Sustainable News Solutions

In a bid to promote sustainability in the packaging industry, Amcor and Coveris have recently unveiled innovative packaging formats for refrigerated food applications.

Amcor's new product, MonoFlexBP, is a resealable tray designed for fresh produce, prepared foods, and foodservice meals. The tray offers excellent sealing performance and reliable re-sealability for multiple uses, making it an ideal solution for processed meats, sausages, dairy products, cheese, and other chilled or refrigerated items. The advanced resealing system allows for multiple reclosures, providing everyday convenience and supporting food waste reduction.

On the other hand, Coveris has introduced a new resealable mono-material tray, known as TrayCycle, for the same sectors. This fibre-based packaging solution is more environmentally friendly than traditional plastic news. The TrayCycle trays are a linerless packaging format, reducing waste and increasing recyclability. They are also free from PFAS, a harmful chemical often found in packaging materials.

The TrayCycle trays can be printed using gravure or flexographic methods and are available with a matt or paper-effect lacquer finish, ensuring they maintain their appeal on the shelves.

Last month, Coveris launched its MonoFlex Thermoform film packaging for tortilla wraps, a mono-material solution designed to replace non-recyclable, mixed material thermoforming substrates. This move aligns with the growing trend towards sustainable news solutions in the industry.

Blossom Hill has also joined the sustainability bandwagon, adopting a fibre-based, linerless packaging format for its apricots. This new packaging format by Blossom Hill is a potential solution for reducing plastic waste in the packaging industry.

Coveris will be attending Fachpack in Nuremburg from 23rd-25th September, where they will showcase their latest sustainable news innovations. The company's commitment to sustainability and reducing waste is commendable and sets a positive example for others in the industry.
