Customs authorities in Abu Dhabi and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have formalized a mutual agreement to facilitate smooth digital data transfer.

In a significant step towards enhancing digital collaboration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) of the United Arab Emirates and the General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The agreement aims to establish a comprehensive institutional framework for data and information exchange, marking a pivotal milestone in Abu Dhabi Customs' efforts to enhance digital integration with government entities.

The MoU is part of MoFA's innovative, future-focused approach to service delivery, which leverages artificial intelligence and advanced technologies. The provision of smart, interconnected services is a key objective of the MoU, with the aim of developing a smart, proactive digital ecosystem that streamlines processes, reduces time and effort, and eliminates unnecessary procedures.

The digital ecosystem supports the UAE's national plans for a diversified, sustainable knowledge economy. By activating digital integration between the two entities, the MoU seeks to improve customs operations efficiency and elevate service quality, aligning with broader UAE initiatives to leverage technology for better governance and service quality.

The agreement ensures effective information sharing and robust data governance, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's status as a global center for trade. H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, expressed pride in the constructive collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Abu Dhabi Customs. He emphasized that building an intelligent customs ecosystem is a key part of Abu Dhabi Customs' future vision, with data exchange and electronic integration with strategic partners being top priorities.

The MoU was signed by H.E. Omar Obaid Al Hesan Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, at MoFA's Abu Dhabi Headquarters. The partnership is a key pillar in supporting digital transformation and achieving the goals of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme.

The MoU is expected to enhance service delivery, foster innovation, and improve the overall efficiency of government operations, aligning with Abu Dhabi's vision to be a leading global hub for trade and smart services.
