Debut of Enhanced 2026 Solterra Electric Vehicle by Subaru at New York Auto Event

The 2026 Subaru Solterra EV is set to make waves in the electric vehicle market, boasting significant improvements over its previous iteration. This refined version of Subaru's all-electric SUV promises a more capable and comfortable driving experience, with extended range, consistent power output, and upgraded in-car technology.

The 2026 Solterra offers an estimated range of approximately 285 to 290 miles on a full charge, marking a 25% increase over the earlier model's 227 miles. This is thanks to a new, slightly larger battery pack of around 74.7 kWh, compared to the previous 72.8 kWh battery.

Powering the vehicle are dual electric motors producing around 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. This setup features Subaru's signature symmetrical all-wheel drive system, adapted for EVs, delivering smooth and responsive acceleration suitable for city and highway driving.

For those seeking a more powerful option, the new XT trim adds dual electric motors, generating a total of 338 horsepower.

Charging the Solterra is made more efficient with DC fast charging capability. The vehicle can charge from 10% to 80% in about 35 minutes using a high-speed charger with a power acceptance up to approximately 150 kW. The battery also comes with a preconditioning system that optimises charging performance in cold weather.

In terms of in-car technology, the 2026 model features a 14-inch center touchscreen, offering wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android AutoTM. Rear passengers benefit from high-power USB-C ports, while standard wireless smartphone chargers are included for the driver.

Safety has not been overlooked. The Solterra comes with a host of standard EyeSight® technologies, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, pre-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. An updated parking assist system is also introduced.

The Solterra sits on an 8.3-inch ground clearance, and includes X-MODE® with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings. The reengineered all-wheel-drive system manages dual motors independently for improved traction on varied terrain.

The Solterra's bolder exterior look, predictive all-wheel drive that optimises grip and reduces body roll, and improved handling thanks to enhancements to the suspension and steering, further set it apart in Subaru's lineup.

Full pricing and specifications for the 2026 Solterra will be announced later this year. The Solterra was initially launched in 2023 and is now entering its next generation. It was unveiled at the New York International Auto Show.
