Debut of the Pagani Huayra Codalunga Speedster: An exclusive, open-top V12 hypercar unveiled

The Italian automaker Pagani has unveiled two extraordinary hypercars, the Huayra Codalunga Speedster and the Huayra R Evo, each embodying distinct design philosophies, performance characteristics, and price points.

**Design**

The Huayra Codalunga Speedster is an open-top hypercar that pays homage to the elegance and performance of 1950s and '60s race cars. With a long-tail and streamlined silhouette, measuring 193.3 inches in length (11 inches longer than the standard Huayra), the Speedster features a dramatically lowered windshield, elegantly arced side windows, and a removable hardtop that creates a clean profile when taken off. The car emphasises aerodynamic purity with subtle features such as hidden NACA ducts, smooth surfaces, CFD-refined wheel arches, and a minimalist rear design with six exhaust outlets integrated into the diffuser. Its chassis is made from lightweight Carbo-Titanium, enhancing both structural rigidity and lightness, weighing approximately 2,800 lbs (dry). Inside, it boasts hand-stitched leathers and exquisite embroidery inspired by Pagani’s quad-exhaust motif.

In contrast, the Huayra R Evo is a track-focused variant. Although detailed Evo-specific design elements are less highlighted, the Huayra R lineage is known for aggressive aerodynamic features tailored for track performance and extreme weight reduction, with a dry weight of only 1,050 kg (2,315 lbs), emphasising track efficiency more than road-going luxury or aesthetic refinements.

**Performance**

The Codalunga Speedster is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0L Mercedes-AMG V12 engine producing 864 hp and 811 lb-ft of torque, shared with the Huayra Utopia and more powerful than the original Codalunga coupe. It uses a 7-speed Xtrac gearbox, available with both automated-manual and a rare manual transmission, a first for a Huayra Speedster. The car weighs about 2,800 lbs (dry) and includes advanced features like active suspension, carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, and Pirelli Trofeo R tires for a balance of performance and road usability.

The Huayra R Evo, as a track-only car, uses a naturally aspirated 6.0L V12 developed by HWA AG, delivering 838 hp at 8,250 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque. It features a 6-speed sequential transmission and a significantly lighter weight of 1,050 kg (2,315 lbs), prioritising raw track performance and agility over comfort or open-top styling. The Huayra R Evo’s engine is known for its high-revving nature (redline at 9,000 rpm), designed specifically for track use.

**Price**

The Huayra Codalunga Speedster is extremely limited, with only 10 units planned and deliveries starting in 2026. Although a precise price is not mentioned, Pagani's ultra-exclusive open-top hypercars with bespoke craftsmanship typically carry prices well north of several million dollars. The Huayra R (predecessor to the Evo) cost approximately €2.6 million (~$3.1 million) for a limited run of 30 track-only cars. The Evo, being an evolution of this model, is expected to be in a similar ultra-high price bracket, reflecting its exclusivity and track-specialized engineering.

In summary, the Codalunga Speedster blends racing heritage with open-air craftsmanship and usability, while the Huayra R Evo focuses on uncompromised track performance and lightweight engineering, reflected in their differing powertrains, design ethos, and exclusivity.

The Huayra Codalunga Speedster, with its refined design echoing the elegance of 1950s and '60s race cars, presents a unique blend of lifestyle and technology, showcasing its aesthetically pleasing construction and state-of-the-art features. In harmony with the fast-paced world of sports and events, this hypercar promises an exhilarating ride for those who appreciate the fusion of classic elegance and modern engineering.

On the other hand, the Huayra R Evo, a track-focused variant, embodies a different lifestyle philosophy, prioritizing technology and performance over aesthetics. With its high-performing technology and extreme weight reduction, this hypercar appeals to those passionate about sports, technology, and the pursuit of the ultimate track experience.
