Dodge Revives Iconic Hemi V8 for 2025 Charger
Dodge is set to revive the legendary Hemi V8 engine, much to the joy of petrolheads. The company has revealed plans to restart production of the 5.7-litre Hemi at the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan. This news comes after Dodge discontinued the V8 in 2022, leaving fans of the powerful engine disappointed.
The return of the Hemi is part of Dodge's strategy to offer multiple powertrain options for the all-new Dodge Charger, which launched as a fully-electric model. The electric Charger Daytona R/T and Charger Daytona Scat Pack are currently available in dealerships. However, Dodge engineers are working to integrate Hemi power into the new model.
The Charger will offer two versions of the Hurricane six-cylinder engine, a 313kW Standard Output and a 410kW High Output. But the real excitement comes from the rumoured return of the Hemi. Dodge CEO Matt McAlear has hinted at a more favourable stance towards V8s within the company's leadership, suggesting that the days of the anti-V8 sentiment under former CEO Carlos Tavares are over.
Gas-powered Dodge Charger Sixpack H.O. and Dodge Charger Sixpack S.O. models are expected to arrive in the second half of 2025. Stellantis' decision to resume production of the 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine signals a shift in the company's stance towards V8 engines. Fans of the powerful engine can look forward to a return to the glory days of the Hemi.
