Drone Test Route Success Paves Way for Faster Cargo Delivery in Saxony
A successful test route paves the way for expanded drone operations in Saxony. The innovative flight, bypassing traffic congestion, could revolutionise transport times, especially for urgent cargo like blood samples.
The trial, conducted by an unnamed company from Dresden's innovation hub, saw a drone navigate around obstacles such as cranes, demonstrating its autonomous capabilities. An experienced pilot monitored the flight, ensuring safety.
The drone, equipped with three SIM cards for constant connectivity, flew at speeds up to 120 kilometers per hour. It completed the 12-minute route in a fraction of the usual 40-minute car journey, highlighting its potential for reducing transport times by up to 60 percent. This efficiency is crucial, particularly during the pandemic, for the swift and safe delivery of blood samples. Around 50 samples are currently flown daily from the Ore Mountains to Dresden using a drone.
The successful test route opens doors for larger projects, including covering the entire Free State of Saxony with drone flight routes. The company behind this innovation aims to transform logistics, making deliveries faster and more reliable, especially for time-sensitive cargo.
