EasyJet Adopts Lighter Aircraft Paint for Savings and Sustainability

EasyJet has announced a significant move towards sustainability and cost efficiency by adopting a lighter aircraft paint, developed by Benjamin Moore. This initiative, inspired by Lufthansa's innovative approach, is expected to bring substantial savings and environmental benefits.

The new paint, reduces the weight of each EasyJet Airbus A319, A320, and A321 aircraft by approximately 30 kilograms. This may seem modest, but the impact is substantial. Each aircraft is expected to save around 3.6 tons of kerosene per year, amounting to almost 1,300 tons of fuel savings annually for the entire fleet.

At current oil prices, EasyJet estimates annual savings of approximately 930,000 euros due to these fuel savings. By 2030, when the entire fleet is equipped with the lighter color, the total weight savings will reach nine tons. This not only reduces operational costs but also contributes to EasyJet's sustainability goals by lowering CO2 emissions.

EasyJet's decision to adopt a lighter aircraft paint, following Lufthansa's lead, is a strategic move that promises both financial savings and environmental benefits. As the entire fleet transitions to the lighter color by 2030, EasyJet is set to save nearly a million euros annually and significantly reduce its carbon footprint.
