eCity Charge Ceases Operations After Three Years of Promoting EV Adoption

eCity Charge, a Spanish company specialising in electric vehicle charging solutions, has ceased operations after three years of activity. The company, led by CEO Inigo Oraa, had expanded its operations across Spain and focused on making the electric vehicle purchase refund process more efficient.

eCity Charge was founded in 2020, providing solutions for power optimisation and integration into photovoltaic generation systems. It focused on alternating current charging equipment, offering single-phase 7.4 kW and three-phase 22 kW/44 kW chargers. The company expanded its operations beyond the Community of Madrid in 2023, reaching regions like Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Catalonia, the Basque Country, and Navarre.

The eMobility sector, including eCity Charge, has been advocating for a more efficient refund process for electric vehicle purchases. CEO Inigo Oraa suggested simplifying the MOVES process, offering discounts, and exempting electromobility from taxes to encourage electric vehicle adoption. However, only 855.41 million euros of the initial 1.2 billion euros of Plan MOVES have been granted for the eMobility transition in Spain.

Despite the company's expansion and efforts to promote electric vehicle adoption, eCity Charge has ceased operations. The remaining 344.59 million euros of Plan MOVES III, extended for seven more months, may support other eMobility projects with capital injections. The company's legacy in home and communal garage installations for electric vehicle charging points will continue to benefit the growing electric vehicle community in Spain.
