Editor Discusses Crafting Deadpool and Wolverine Movie's Final Battle Scene

In a pulsating turn of events, Deadpool and Wolverine harmonize Madonna's "Like a Prayer" for the grand finale of their adventure. An intriguing tale unfolds, revealing the lengths creators went to, to make the climax a memorable spectacle.

Shane Reid, one of the editors on the project, shares some fascinating insights into the journey that led to the film's breathtaking conclusion. Initially, the idea of reprising "Like a Prayer" was in the pipeline, but with no clear vision, a deviation was considered. "I remember being captivated by Journey's 'Separate Ways,' believing it encapsulated the essence of the scene," Reid recounts.

However, Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy, the film's stars and director respectively, had other ideas. "They came up with the reprise of 'Like a Prayer' and suggested integrating Journey's 'Separate Ways' too," Reid says, adding, "It's all thanks to their exceptional creative partnership."

The initial sequence, featuring the characters linking up and exploding, fell flat, prompting another round of revisions. The creative team delved deep into the scenes from previous Deadpool installments, weaving together visual representations of loss in Deadpool's life. An online choir was also roped in to create a soulful rendition of "Like a Prayer."

But, being a joint venture, Wolverine had to get his moment too. "We drew inspiration from key dialogues and poignant moments in the film to craft visual representations of Wolverine's journey," says Reid. The choice of scenes was strategic, aiming to provide fresh insights without appearing redundant.
