Subaru has unveiled its latest offering, the 2026 Uncharted, an all-electric compact crossover SUV that promises to blend sporty performance with practicality. This new vehicle is designed to preserve Subaru's brand values while adapting to the demands of sustainable transportation in the electric vehicle market.

Powertrain and Range

The 2026 Subaru Uncharted offers two main powertrain options. The Premium trim features a 221 horsepower front-wheel-drive motor with an estimated range exceeding 300 miles on a 74.7-kWh battery. The Sport and GT trims, on the other hand, use dual motors totaling 338 hp, enabling all-wheel-drive, with a slightly reduced range of about 290 miles due to the second motor's power demand. All models support fast charging at 150 kW, capable of charging the battery from 10% to 80% in around 30 minutes.

Trims and Features

The Uncharted will be offered in three trims: Premium (front-wheel drive), Sport (all-wheel drive), and GT (all-wheel drive). The Premium FWD version is more limited in production but offers the longest range.

The Premium trim comes with standard features like heated front seats, heated side mirrors, and a windshield wiper de-icer. Higher trims add Lane Change Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, and a smart rearview mirror for improved visibility. The Sport and GT trims deliver up to 338 horsepower and have an estimated range of 290 miles.

Design and Comfort

The Uncharted's design features a high-contrast, two-tone roof (available on the GT), newly designed 18- and 20-inch wheels, low-profile roof rails on AWD models, and seamless LED tail lamps. Inside, the interior features a clean and linear dashboard, accented by orange stitching and subtle ambient lighting. Rear legroom is comparable to the Subaru Crosstrek, and heated rear outboard seats are available on the GT.

Competition

The Uncharted's 338 hp output exceeds that of rivals such as the Hyundai Kona EV and Kia Niro EV, and its all-wheel-drive system is enhanced with Subaru's X-Mode Dual Mode with Grip Control, improving traction on slippery surfaces. The Uncharted's range and charging performance make it competitive within the compact electric crossover market, targeting buyers who want a sporty yet practical SUV with both rear- and front-drive options, resonating with Subaru's adventurous brand identity.

Safety and Technology

The Uncharted comes equipped with a suite of Subaru's EyeSight® driver-assist technologies. Pre-collision braking, front cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, emergency stop assist, and a panoramic view monitor are included. The vehicle also uses the North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector for charging, ensuring compatibility with over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers.

Pricing details for the Uncharted have not yet been released and are expected closer to the vehicle's early 2026 launch. The Uncharted marks Subaru's first attempt at an EV, following the cautious optimism received for the Solterra, co-developed with Toyota.
