The DS N°4 has received a makeover and now dons the prestigious title of DS Automobiles N°4. But that's not the only change - this time around, an electric drive variant has taken the spotlight!
DS Automobiles is known for championing the haut-couture aesthetic in the automotive world. With a focus on French design, style, and sophisticated allure, the brand delivers a unique blend of elegance and exclusivity. Although it may not be Bugatti, the manufacturer still manages to stand out from the crowd, incorporating unconventional decorations and luxurious materials like Nappa leather into its interiors.
While the visual changes to the updated "four" are minor, the real action is under the hood.
Enhanced Power and Efficiency
You'll be hard-pressed to miss a few key changes that are immediately apparent. The diesel variant has been axed from the inventory, and the entry-level model now kicks off with a hybrid drive system generating a hefty 145 PS. The 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine has been boosted by a 21 kW electric motor, resulting in a familiar powertrain within the Stellantis group.
For those bagging the plug-in hybrid option, you'll notice there are a few fine details. The system output remains at 225 PS, but the power of the electric motor has been increased to 125 PS. This enhancement should make electric driving more enjoyable and efficient. The car's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and upgraded battery (now 14.6 kWh) have also gone through the ringer, allowing the 1.7-tonner to cruise up to 77 kilometers on a single charge in the average WLTP cycle.
Introducing the Fully Electric DS N°4 E-TENSE
The real star of the show is the fully electric DS N°4 E-TENSE, making its debut without an internal combustion engine. This version boasts a larger battery with a net capacity of 58.3 kWh, a new stage for the EMP2 candidates. The charging power has also been boosted from 100 kW to 120 kW.
While the 156 hp electric motor's true performance will be tested in future drives, one thing is for sure - the battery's enhanced capacity and higher charging power mean faster, more efficient charging times. Be on the lookout for more data on that front!
Priced at 45,900 euros, the electric and PHEV editions won't break the bank, but they do reap the benefits of more favorable tax legislation for company car drivers compared to the mild hybrid variant. After all, who doesn't love a great deal on a luxury ride with a purpose?
The trunk space in the electric and PHEV offerings hasn't been compromised, with 390 and 360 liters respectively, ensuring plenty of room for your next family vacation. Just remember to leave room for the charging equipment!
