Elon Musk Accuses Apple of Favoring ChatGPT Over His Apps

Elon Musk, the CEO of X and Tesla, has accused Apple's App Store of favoring OpenAI's ChatGPT app over his own apps, X and Grok. In a post on the X platform, Musk alleges that Apple's ranking and editorial decisions make it impossible for any AI company other than OpenAI to reach the number one position in the App Store.

Musk claims that this behavior is a clear antitrust violation and questions why Apple has not included X, which he describes as the world's leading news app, or Grok, which ranks fifth among all apps in the U.S., in the App Store's "Must Have" category.

This accusation comes amid broader scrutiny of Apple's App Store practices, including ongoing legal challenges over competition and fairness. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has publicly dismissed Musk's claims, accusing Musk of manipulating his own platforms to benefit himself and harm rivals.

The integration of Grok, Musk's AI chatbot, into Tesla vehicles was confirmed last month. Grok is also currently the fifth most popular app overall in the U.S., according to Apple App Store rankings. X, Musk's news app, is ranked as the top free news app on the Apple App Store in the U.S.

Musk's latest accusation adds another layer to his ongoing rivalry with Apple and OpenAI. The ongoing battle for App Store visibility is the next battleground for X and Grok, as both platforms see rapid adoption.
