Empowering digital stories to foster community-level digital inclusion, barangay by barangay
The 12th edition of the Globe Media Excellence Awards (GMEA@12) is set to celebrate stories that empower and promote digital inclusion, with a focus on grassroots empowerment and bridging the digital divide. The theme for this year's awards is "Digitally Forward: One Barangay at a Time," emphasizing the importance of showcasing technology-driven positive change at the local level[1][4].
Aligning with the Department of Information and Communications Technology’s (DICT) agenda on digital inclusion, GMEA@12 aims to highlight journalism and storytelling that demonstrate how technology is reaching micro-communities such as barangays, enabling families to thrive, businesses to grow, and communities to participate in nation-building[1].
The submission period for GMEA@12 runs from July 21 to August 31, 2025. During this time, media practitioners and content creators from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are invited to submit work published or aired between September 2024 and August 2025. Entries will be judged based on content, storytelling style, impact, and integration[1][5].
The awards ceremony honors storytellers who embody purpose in action, as stated by Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer at Globe. The awards categories include Newsmaker of the Year, Editor of the Year, Globe of Good Story of the Year (formerly known as Kwentong Tagumpay Community), Integrated Media categories (Online News Report of the Year, Photo of the Year, Radio News Report of the Year, and TV News Report of the Year), and Digital Storytelling categories (Best Blog Post and Best Social Media Video)[1][2][3].
Special Awards will be given exclusively to First Place winners in various categories. The submission portal for GMEA@12 goes live on July 30, 2025, and can be accessed at http://globe.com.ph[1][6].
GMEA@12 strengthens Globe's commitment to inclusive nation-building by amplifying the voices that help move the country forward, one story and one barangay at a time[1]. The awards celebrate stories that help transform everyday lives, enable businesses to grow, and communities to participate in nation-building.
