Establishment of 54 infrastructure facilities for zero-emission heavy goods vehicles, a joint initiative between DfT and Innovate UK, across the United Kingdom.
The UK's future of roads minister, Lilian Greenwood MP, has unveiled the planned locations of 54 new infrastructure hubs around the UK, marking a significant step towards the decarbonization of the haulage sector. This initiative, known as the Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrations (ZEHID) programme, is organised by Innovate UK and represents an investment of up to £200 million from the Department for Transport (DfT).
These strategically placed hubs aim to address one of the biggest barriers to zero-emission HGV adoption: reliable infrastructure. The government is pursuing its target of reaching net zero in the UK by 2050, and this programme is intended to transform the UK's freight industry.
The ZEHID programme aims to support the development, uptake, and demonstration of commercially available zero-emission HGVs. The hubs will be located in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, and will include electric charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure.
HGVs account for 20% of domestic transport CO emissions in the UK, making this programme a crucial part of the government's efforts to combat climate change. The UK government has also allocated a £120 million funding package to accelerate the transition to zero-emission transport.
Simon Buckley, knowledge transfer manager for Zero Emission Mobility, stated that the announcement of 54 new infrastructure hubs marks a transformative moment for the UK's freight industry. The event, hosted by CiTTi Magazine, is taking place at the NEC Birmingham on 25-26 March 2025.
The event offers a focused environment for logistics, supply chain, and sustainability professionals to share ideas and solutions. It is co-located with IntraLogisteX and Robotics and Automation at the NEC Birmingham on the same dates. A panel discussion exploring electric vehicles and alternative fuels is being hosted by CiTTi Magazine at the Sustainable Supply Chain Exhibition.
The event registration is free, and it is intended to help professionals on their sustainability journeys. The event dates are 25-26 March 2025, and it is important to note that as of now, there are no search results providing the exact locations of the 54 planned infrastructure hubs for the ZEHID program in the UK.
In addition, the UK government has extended the plug-in van grant, demonstrating its commitment to promoting zero-emission vehicles. This event is a great opportunity for industry professionals to learn about the latest developments in zero-emission HGVs and infrastructure, and to network with like-minded individuals.
