Euro NCAP grants top safety score to Polestar 4 Model
The Polestar 4 has made a strong debut in the competitive automotive market, securing a 5-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP). This achievement marks the third Polestar vehicle to receive this prestigious accolade, following in the footsteps of the Polestar 2 and Polestar 3.
The Polestar 4's testing was conducted by the NCAP as part of a batch that included several other vehicle models, such as the Lynk & Co 02, OMODA 9, ZEEKR 7x, and MG P9 EV. Despite stiff competition, the Polestar 4 emerged as the top performer.
The Polestar 4's impressive safety score is attributed to a meticulously designed suite of advanced safety features and technologies. Seven airbags, including an internal side airbag designed to minimise passenger-to-passenger collisions, play a crucial role in the vehicle's crash protection capabilities.
An Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is another key contributor to the Polestar 4's safety performance. This system, which constantly monitors the vehicle's surroundings, utilises 11 external cameras, 1 driver monitoring camera, 1 mid-range radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The ADAS issues warnings or intervenes to prevent accidents, demonstrating its effectiveness.
Other notable safety features include an SOS call system (advanced eCall), which automatically alerts emergency services in the event of a serious crash, and a rear camera mounted on the vehicle roof. This innovative design provides a wide field of view with enhanced low-light visibility and an unobstructed rear view, even when carrying luggage or passengers.
In the crash tests, the Polestar 4 achieved perfect scores in front offset, side impact, and side pole impact tests. It also demonstrated top-tier crash protection with a 92% adult occupant protection rating. The vehicle also scored well in child occupant protection (85%) and pedestrian protection (81%), thanks to effective autonomous emergency braking that detects pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.
The Polestar 4's safety assistance systems also impressed, earning a 79% rating, reflecting its strong active safety features. These factors culminated in an overall safety score of 86% for the Polestar 4, securing its place among the safest vehicles on the road.
