Excel Introduces PivotTable #SPILL! to Manage Blocked Tables

Microsoft 365 Excel has introduced a new feature, PivotTable #SPILL!, to help users manage blocked PivotTables. This feature is currently available to Beta Channel users of Excel for Windows and Mac.

Valerie Kistrina, a Product Manager on the Excel team, unveiled this innovation. PivotTable #SPILL! allows PivotTables to collapse into a single cell with a #SPILL! error when obstructed by text, merged cells, tables, or the spreadsheet's edge. This enables users to tackle errors at their own pace.

The feature impacts dependent analysis objects like formulas and PivotCharts but leaves interaction objects like slicers and timelines unaffected. Users can resolve the #SPILL! error by clearing blocking cells, moving the PivotTable, adjusting fields, or using slicers and timelines.

PivotTable #SPILL! is now accessible to Microsoft 365 Insiders and participants in the Microsoft 365 Insider program. It is available to Beta Channel users running specific versions of Excel for Windows and Mac. This feature aims to enhance user experience by providing a flexible way to handle blocked PivotTables.
