The Hydrolyzed Animal Protein (HAP) market, valued at USD 447.0 million in 2024, is experiencing significant growth, projected to reach USD 800.5 million by 2034. This expansion is driven by the increasing demand for HAP in various sectors, from food and nutrition to pet care and supplements.

In 2024, North America held a dominant market position, capturing more than a 49.3% share worth USD 220.3 million. Dairy proteins commanded a leading 42.7% share within this region. The sports and active-lifestyle segment significantly boosts demand for hydrolyzed proteins in North America, making them a popular choice for enhanced muscle maintenance and nutrition.

Powdered hydrolyzed proteins held a commanding 72.6% share of the HAP market in 2024. These powdered proteins are valued for their enhanced digestibility, solubility, and bioavailability, making them ideal for use in a wide range of products. In North America, HAP is used for enhanced flavor, improved texture, and fast digestibility in products like soups, sauces, ready meals, snacks, and fortified bakery goods.

Hydrolyzed proteins are also used in infant nutrition formulas to make them easy to digest and reduce allergy risks. In the pet food industry, HAP is used to improve gut health and coat shine, easing digestion for picky or sensitive pets.

Arla Foods Ingredients has launched a new whey protein hydrolysate, Lacprodan HYDRO.365, designed to support muscle maintenance in healthy aging. Similarly, GELITA has launched a new product, BODYBALANCED, a hydrolyzed collagen specifically designed to prevent the loss of bone density in postmenopausal women.

The Asia-Pacific region, with a 42.9% share and revenue generation of USD 33.1 billion in 2024, also plays a significant role in the HAP market. Cargill is expanding production capabilities for its hydrolyzed collagen peptides to meet the growing global demand for collagen-based supplements.

India, through the National Biomanufacturing Policy and the Department of Science and Technology, promotes alternative proteins, including HAP, to bolster employment, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. One approved project in India, focused on plant-based egg alternatives derived from millet, received funding of ₹8,930,000 for two years.

Fonterra is studying specific milk protein hydrolysates that demonstrate cognitive health benefits, positioning their ingredients for the growing wellness and functional food markets beyond basic nutrition. BRF S.A. has expanded its line of processed meats, including turkey-based hydrolyzed proteins, to cater to the Brazilian market's demand for convenience and taste without compromising on protein content.

The HAP market's growth is expected to continue at a CAGR of 6.0% over the forecast period (2025-2034). As research and development efforts in the field of HAP continue, we can expect to see even more innovative applications and products emerge in the coming years.
