Bitcoin Hits the Mainstream: BlackRock Comes Aboard

The world's largest asset manager, BlackRock, has made a bold move by launching its premier Bitcoin exchange-traded product (ETP) in Europe. Now available on Xetra exchange in Germany, Euronext Paris, and Euronext Amsterdam, the iShares Bitcoin ETP (iB1T) opens the door for institutional and individual investors to dive into the world of Bitcoin with a touch of control.

To ensure a rock-solid foundation in the European market, Coinbase Custody International Ltd takes charge of protecting the ETP, which carries the real deal - Bitcoin underneath. As BlackRock edges closer to incorporating digital assets into traditional financial portfolios, this step represents a major stride.

A Turning Point for the Bitcoin Industry

Manuela Sperandeo, BlackRock's head of Europe & Middle East iShares Product, made a memorable statement, stressing, "This launch undeniably marks a turning point in the industry - where consumer demand from the retail sector collides with professional interest."

BlackRock's decision to debut in Europe follows the triumph of its US-based iShares Bitcoin Trust, amassing an impressive $50 billion in assets since its inception last year. This expansion into European markets underscores the company's unwavering commitment to providing a plethora of investment options.

Earlier this month, BlackRock unveiled its iShares spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (IBIT) in certain model portfolios. Michael Gates, the lead portfolio manager for BlackRock's Target Allocation ETF model portfolio suite, put it simply: Bitcoin holds "long-term investment potential and can potentially deliver unique and additive sources of diversification to portfolios."
