The construction of this urban surfing paradise took seven years, and every step of the process has been meticulously captured in a new documentary film by filmmaker Lutz Schmidt.

The 91-minute documentary, titled "Blackforestwave," had its spectacular premiere in September 2022 at the very location where the standing wave now stands. The film offers an insightful look into the planning, construction, and challenges faced during the creation of this impressive project.

Lutz Schmidt accompanied the association responsible for the "Blackforestwave" for six years, attending their meetings, scientific wave research, administrative procedures, and the final wave construction. He documented the entire journey, taking on production, camera, sound, and post-production duties himself, working exclusively in his free time.

The documentary provides a behind-the-scenes look at the complex process of building the "Blackforestwave," offering viewers a unique perspective on the dedication and hard work required to bring such a project to life. It also showcases the inspiration behind the "Blackforestwave," which was inspired by the famous Eisbach wave in Munich, Germany.

After its premiere, the documentary was released for free viewing on the internet in September 2022, allowing a wider audience to witness the incredible journey of the "Blackforestwave." The film has since been shown in selected locations and at film festivals, and it was even nominated for the Baden-Württemberg Film Award.

The "Blackforestwave" standing wave facility is located in Metzelgraben between Kupferdächle and the city garden, offering surfers the opportunity to enjoy the thrill of surfing in the middle of the city.
