Extension of Fiber Optics in Hohe Börde Municipality Costs Around EUR 3 Million
In a significant move towards digital modernisation, the broadband expansion project in Mammendorf, Saxony-Anhalt, has commenced. The project, supported by both the federal and state governments with a combined funding of approximately three million euros, aims to supply all households and businesses with fibre optics by 2030.
The project, attended by Dr. Lydia Hüsken, Minister of Infrastructure and Digitalisation of Saxony-Anhalt, at its groundbreaking ceremony, is part of a broader strategy to make Saxony-Anhalt more appealing to people from other regions. It aims to make rural areas outside the metropolitan regions more attractive, creating incentives for further business settlements.
The expansion plan relies on a close integration of commercial and funded expansion. The commercial fibre optic expansion in Mammendorf, covering approximately 80 percent of all addresses, has been completed three years ago. The funded project will connect an additional 237 addresses in Mammendorf. A total of 237 previously underserved addresses in the 14 districts of Hohe Börde will benefit from the funding.
The project ensures good digital framework conditions for various uses, including home office, streaming, and telemedical applications. Fibre optics, faster, more stable, and more secure than conventional copper DSL networks, will provide residents with a high-quality digital infrastructure. After the network is put into operation, residents can book connections with a bandwidth of up to 1 Gbit/s.
The project is expected to increase the quality of life for citizens. It will provide them with the necessary digital tools to work from home, stream their favourite shows, and access telemedical services with ease. Moreover, the project's ultimate aim is to create incentives for further business settlements, making Mammendorf a more attractive location for businesses.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Digitalisation of Saxony-Anhalt is working to create modern structures across the state. This broadband expansion project in Hohe Börde is a testament to their commitment to digital modernisation and a step towards achieving their goal of supplying all households and businesses with fibre optics by 2030.
