The Showdown of Extraction Shooters is Here!

Extraction Shooter Highlight: Essential Facts About the Thrilling Arc Raiders of 2025

get ready, gaming enthusiasts! Arc Raiders, the upcoming third-person PvPvE shooter, is set to dominate the scene this fall. This slick production from Embark Studios brings together the best elements of Escape From Tarkov, Gears of War, and the stunning architecture designs of Swedish game development, all wrapped up in a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi package.

Remember when Marathon was the frontrunner for the big-budget extraction shooters? Well, hold onto your helmets, as Arc Raiders is poised to twist the balance! The tech test held in May may have left you craving more. Your prayers have been answered, as Arc Raiders is all set to drop on October 30, 2025, on Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Gear up for the ultimate extraction-off between Arc Raiders and Marathon! This epic face-off is just around the corner, with Arc Raiders releasing a scant month after Marathon's September 23 launch date. May the extraction shooting derby be merciful upon us all!

The secret countdown leading to the announcement was discovered by astute fans, feeding the rumors of a possible shadow drop during Summer Game Fest. However, the countdown was merely a sneak peek at the release date announcement, not a secret launch.

Revisit the Apocalyptic Trailer

We've got a mouthwatering cinematic trailer for Arc Raiders up for your viewing pleasure! Much like its predecessor, this video is more of a mood piece than a gameplay demonstration. If you're seeking a taste of Arc Raiders' gameplay, a plethora of Tech Test footage is readily available on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

Escape or Die: The Gameplay Mechanics

Extraction shooters, you say? Think you ain't heard that term before? In Arc Raiders, players arm themselves with weapons and gadgets from their personal stockpile, then jump into blockbuster maps jam-packed with other raiders, zombies, and robots (PvPvE). The objective is simple: complete missions, hunt for rare loot, or simply outmaneuver your opponents.

A single match runs for 30 minutes, and players can extract from the map at any time through an elevator or hatch. It's important to note that if you meet your untimely demise in the field, you'll lose all of your gear and loot.

Not all progress is lost, however, as completing quests for traders earns you XP that contributes to your persistent skill tree. During the Tech Test, I found myself focusing on enhancing my stamina for better sprinting, climbing, and stealth maneuvers.

A Post-Apocalyptic Playground

Admittedly, the setting isn't usually high on my radar in competitive shooters. But Arc Raiders' impressive backstory piques my interest. According to the lore, Earth was invaded by a sinister faction of machines called the Arc machines, driving the remaining human population underground. The game takes place in the game's only remaining city, Speranza, where raiders such as you are assigned the risky task of venturing to the surface to scavenge for essential resources.

Embark Studios expertly integrates the constant threat of the Arc machines into gameplay by peppering the maps with various deadly drones and robots that patrol the area, keeping players on their toes and instilling an air of caution as they move through the levels.

From Co-op to PvP

Vaguely recall hearing about Arc Raiders years ago but don't remember the PvP element? Your memory serves you well! At its introduction in 2021, Arc Raiders was a PvE cooperative shooter. However, in 2023, the developers made a strategic shift to the PvPvE extraction shooter format.

The Mighty Scrappy Rooster

A helpful little companion named Scrappy the Rooster joins your adventure, living in Speranza and scavenging raw materials while you're exploring the wasteland. This plucky bird ensures you always have access to the necessities for your missions. Just be mindful to give him a thought before embarking on your raids!
