Fabulous user base of 400 million on Threads, solidifying its lead in the realm of text-centric chats

In the realm of social media, Meta's Threads app, a competitor to the once-dominant X (formerly known as Twitter), has demonstrated impressive growth. As of June 2025, Threads has reached over 400 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs), marking a steady increase from the 350 million reported in April 2021 and 320 million at the start of the year.

The app's Daily Active Users (DAUs) also reflect this growth, recording 115.1 million DAUs, a 127.8% year-over-year increase. This surge in user engagement has expanded Threads' global reach, with the app now available in over 100 countries and supporting 31 languages.

Comparison with X

Despite Threads' significant growth, X still leads in terms of MAUs, with an estimated 600 million. However, X's mobile user base has seen a decline since Elon Musk's takeover. In terms of DAUs, X has 132 million, slightly ahead of Threads' 115.1 million. Interestingly, X remains dominant in web traffic with 145.8 million daily visits, while Threads' strong mobile engagement is closing the gap.

Factors Influencing Threads' Growth

Several factors have contributed to Threads' success. Its integration with Instagram allows users to easily connect with their existing network, while its community-driven approach appeals to users seeking a more curated space for conversation. The controversies and changes at X have also driven some users to explore alternatives like Threads.

If Meta continues to improve Threads without alienating its community, it might become the primary destination for real-time conversation, making mobile a significant battleground for attention in social media.

The growth of Meta's Threads app has resulted in it offering a diverse range of social-media-based entertainment options to its over 400 million Monthly Active Users (MAUs). In comparison, although X still dominates in terms of MAUs, its mobile user base has declined slightly since Elon Musk's takeover, making technology platforms like Threads increasingly appealing to users seeking alternatives for their social media needs.
