Ford Ends Production of Iconic Focus ST in Europe

Ford has ended production of the Focus ST in Europe, marking the end of an era for the popular performance compact. The final model rolled off the assembly line at the Ford factory in Saarlouis, Germany, on September 26, 2023.

The Ford Focus ST was first introduced in 1998 in Europe and 1999 in the U.S., offering drivers a sporty alternative to the standard Focus. Ford's answer to performance compacts like the Honda Civic Si and Toyota Celica GTS, the Focus ST was available in various trims over the years.

From 2002 to 2004, Ford offered the high-performance SVT trim, followed by the slightly detuned ST trim from 2005 to 2007. In 2021 and 2024, limited-production Edition models were introduced with enhanced performance features. The final generation of the Focus ST (2019-2025) featured a 2.3-liter turbocharged EcoBoost I-4 engine with 276 hp, along with a 2.0-liter EcoBlue I-4 diesel engine option with 187 hp.

The Focus ST came with a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional seven-speed automatic. It also boasted an electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD) and a Performance Pack with launch control and Track Mode. Ford sold the Focus in the U.S. until 2018 and in Europe until 2025, with production ending in September 2025.

The Ford Focus ST's legacy lives on, having provided enthusiasts with thrilling performance and handling for nearly two decades. Its production may have ended, but its impact on the automotive world will not be forgotten.
