Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired Airstream trailer officially revealed
Head's up, adventure seekers! Airstream, that renowned travel trailer powerhouse, and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation have teamed up for a game-changing collaboration that'll make you feel like you're not just living among design legacies - you're part of it!
The stage is set with the grand unveiling of Airstream's first-ever Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation collaboration: the Usonian Limited Edition Travel Trailer. The designer powerhouse decided it was high time for the great outdoors to star in its very own architectural masterpiece, and they did it in style, choosing Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and studio, in Scottsdale, Arizona, as the perfect backdrop for the big reveal.
"This travel trailer is made for nature lovers who appreciate savoring every vibrant hue of the outdoors through every palette-expanding window," says our marketing guru, Carey Walley, joining the roll call of inspiring innovators who've partnered with Airstream over the years.
Now, let's break down the trailer itself. At 28 feet long, it does a tightrope act balancing size and space, sleeping up to four. The kid's room (or the beds for those who never fully outgrew their childish whimsy) features a dinette that converts to a near-queen bed, while the adults have a king-sized bed that opens up like a delightful surprise, with the help of a switch, of course. Airstream, a company that's always figured out how to make the most of a tight space, has mastered the art of compact living once again.
The rear hatch opens up to the vast expanse of nature, making you feel like you're starring in an episode of Planet Earth from the comfort of your bedroom. And that king-sized bed brings new meaning to the idea of immersive entertainment. The primary bedroom, with a large window that lets the breathtaking landscape serve as your very own digital display, and a hatch that opens to the sky, allowing for fresh air and plenty of stargazing.
Airstream has left no stone unturned when it comes to widgets that pay homage to Frank Lloyd Wright. From the light switches to the Gordon leaf motif, a design resurrected from Wright's very own archive, popping up on the kitchen table, trailer door, and more. Speaking of the kitchen, Wood louvers adorn the ceiling, an elegant nod to those you'd find at Taliesin West (the old man kept things classy, we see). Illuminated timber shelves, another Wright classic, are embellished once again with the Gordon leaf motif. Plus, the interior color palette where warm ochres, deep reds, and cool turquoises come together is inspired by Wright's 1955 desert collection.
Now, we know what you're thinking: "This collaboration is like a match made in design heaven." Airstream couldn't agree more - their customers and Wright's enthusiasts share a common love for innovation, practicality, and all things organic. And, as Bob Wheeler, Airstream's President and CEO, so rightfully put it, "with this Usonian Limited Edition Travel Trailer, [Wright’s] work is no longer confined to museums; it's a way of life that anyone can embrace - a way of life that comes to you in a stunning, Wright-inspired design."
