Cascade Space Secures $5.9 Million in Seed Funding for Space Communication Revolution
Cascade Space, a pioneering company aiming to revolutionise communication for demanding space missions, has secured $5.9 million in seed funding. The round saw participation from notable investors including Nova Threshold, Undeterred Capital, Y Combinator, Night Capital, Olive Capital, Valkyrie Ventures, Karman Ventures, Palm Drive Capital, Garage Capital, TRAC, Aurelia Foundry, Hawktail, MGV.VC, Pioneer Fund, Liquid 2 Ventures, and others.
The company's primary goal is to provide tools and infrastructure that will enable faster shipping of space missions with the highest levels of mission assurance. Cascade's focus is on addressing the major bottleneck of communication system design, test, and operation for space companies, particularly those going to lunar and deep space.
With this funding, Cascade Space will enhance the capabilities of its flagship product, the Cascade Portal. This integrated online software platform offers end-to-end communication system design, testing, and operational tools. Engineers can design RF systems rapidly, generate test plans, and ensure compatibility with ground networks, significantly reducing design iteration cycles from weeks to hours.
The open-sourcing of the spacelink Python library, which underpins the Portal’s core functionality, is a strategic move to further advance the development of Cascade Portal. This library will be available for the space community to contribute to and benefit from.
Cascade Space is also expanding its Cascade Network, a growing ground station network aimed at supporting deep space and lunar missions. This network aims to address the limitations and oversubscription issues of existing networks like NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN).
Jacob Portukalian, co-founder and CEO of Cascade, emphasised that their mission is to provide tools and infrastructure for spacecraft communication system design, test, and operations to allow customers to "ship faster with the highest levels of mission assurance."
