Soracom Unveils SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor for Streamlined, Global IoT Deployments
Soracom, a leading global provider of IoT connectivity solutions, has announced the development of the SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor. This innovative technology is set to revolutionize the way businesses manage cellular connectivity for IoT devices, offering unprecedented flexibility, control, and cost savings.
The SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor enables single-SKU global deployment by allowing devices to store and switch between multiple network profiles on a single eUICC-compliant SIM card. This feature eliminates the need for physical SIM swaps, significantly reducing logistics and device downtime.
The Hypervisor supports the GSMA SGP.32 standard, ensuring regulatory compliance for roaming and network usage across regions. It also acts as a centralized control hub, orchestrating global IoT networks and providing automatic fallback options and regional network optimization. This centralized management enhances resilience and performance, and can integrate third-party networks, offering enterprises unparalleled flexibility.
The SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor is designed to provide seamless multi-profile management, allowing devices to dynamically switch between different network operators’ profiles depending on location or connectivity needs. This feature supports scalability and continuous, reliable connectivity without the need for physical SIM swaps.
Soracom is currently conducting live testing in environments using eUICC, eIM, and SM-DP+ infrastructure. The company plans to release the SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor by the end of its 2025 fiscal year.
In a collaborative effort, Soracom is working with Toyota Motor Corporation under the Automotive Edge Computing Consortium (AECC) on a demonstration project called IRIGATE. The IRIGATE project explores stable, flexible connectivity for connected vehicles, and the Connectivity Hypervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with permanent roaming regulations via dynamic profile switching to local carriers.
The SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor is positioned as a foundational technology for scalable, regulatory-compliant, and operationally efficient IoT connectivity. It allows devices to switch to the most appropriate local or use-case-specific profile based on deployment region or application requirements.
Moreover, the SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor enables devices to automatically connect to the network using a pre-installed Soracom profile upon activation. This capability supports multi-profile orchestration, including Soracom and third-party MNO profiles.
As SGP.32 becomes a requirement in automotive RFPs, the SORACOM Connectivity Hypervisor's compliance with this standard will be increasingly valuable for businesses looking to deploy IoT solutions efficiently and compliantly.
