Global release of the latest Apple smartphone, the iPhone 17, commences globally
The tech giant Apple has recently introduced its latest offering, the iPhone 17, and the iPhone 17 Air. These new devices mark a significant step forward in Apple's smartphone lineup, with innovative features and advanced technology.
The iPhone 17 series includes the iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Pro, and the new addition, the iPhone 17 Air. Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, has declared the iPhone 17 Air as "the thinnest iPhone ever," boasting a thickness of just 5.6 mm and a 6.5 inch display. The iPhone 17 Air also features a new CPU, which is faster and more efficient than in previous models, and a second-generation GPU designed to facilitate MacBook-level AI computing.
Apple has also taken steps to improve the durability of the iPhone 17 Air, with an improved ceramic shield on both the front and back, and a titanium frame. The company claims that the iPhone 17 Air is the most durable iPhone ever.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max, part of the series, will make history as the first iPhone to offer a two-terabyte configuration.
In addition to the new iPhones, Apple has also unveiled new Apple Watches and Airpods earlier this month.
While the new iPhones won't feature an overhaul to Siri, Apple's virtual assistant, the company has announced a partnership with OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, to power some of the AI features in its operating systems. This partnership is set to be expanded further, with analysts monitoring whether Apple will add more AI partnerships before the updated version of Siri is unveiled.
Apple's partnership with Google, first established in 2025, aims to leverage Google's AI capabilities for features like the new "World Knowledge Answers" in Siri, while Apple handles queries involving personal data with its own models. This alliance also integrates a custom version of Google Gemini AI within Apple's private cloud to enhance Siri and other services while maintaining user privacy.
The iPhone 17 is available worldwide, with the iPhone 17 Air occupying a middle ground in the iPhone 17 lineup, priced at $999. The iPhone Air could serve as a stepping stone toward a foldable device, like those made by Samsung. Google also unveiled a new folding smartphone model last month.
In a separate announcement, Apple has committed to investing $100 billion in U.S. manufacturing, a move that further cements the company's commitment to innovation and growth.
