Global rollout of high-Definition Spatial Audio from Apple Music in Mercedes‐Benz vehicles, enhancing audio experience for drivers worldwide

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Mercedes-Benz AG and Apple have joined forces to revolutionise the in-car music experience.

Mercedes-Benz AG, one of the world's largest manufacturers of luxury passenger cars, sold around 1.9 million passenger cars and nearly 386,200 vans in 2021. The company's product portfolio includes the Mercedes Benz brand, Mercedes AMG, Mercedes Maybach, Mercedes EQ, G Class, and the smart brand.

The collaboration between the two giants is centred around the integration of Apple Music with Spatial Audio in several Mercedes-Benz models. This integration is present in Mercedes-Maybach models, the EQS and EQS SUV, EQE, and the S-Class.

Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and Beats, expressed his excitement about the collaboration, stating that it showcases how in-car entertainment can reach new levels.

The limited edition Mercedes-Maybach by Virgil Abloh, one of the first cars in the world and the first model in the Mercedes-Benz lineup to offer this sound system, offers a superior, multidimensional soundscape powered by the Burmester high-end 4D sound system.

Apple Music with Spatial Audio offers an immersive listening experience with unparalleled, multidimensional sound and clarity. Mercedes-Benz drivers who are already subscribed to Apple Music gain immediate access to a growing selection of Spatial Audio songs and albums from various genres.

The Burmester 4D sound system in the limited edition Mercedes-Maybach includes 31 speakers, six 3D speakers, four near-ear speakers, an 18.5-liter subwoofer, eight sound transducers, two amplifiers, and 1,750 watts of power.

Markus Schäfer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG's chief technology officer, stated that the collaboration showcases how in-car entertainment can reach new levels. He also mentioned that the technology powering the Burmester 4D sound system in the limited edition Mercedes-Maybach will be rolled out to other models soon.

In the near future, Mercedes-Benz will equip its upcoming models with a 31-speaker system delivering 1,750 watts, including 6 3D speakers with Dolby Atmos spatial audio.
