Google Refreshes Search Quality Rater Guidelines: New Insights on YMYL & AI Content
Google has refreshed its Search Quality Rater Guidelines, providing new insights into how it ranks websites and webpages. This update, released in September 2025, is the first since January 23, 2025.
The YMYL (Your Money or Your Life) category has been expanded to include more political and societal content. This update also brings clearer criteria for evaluating AI-generated content, focusing on E-E-A-T (Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness). Additionally, new specific evaluation rules have been established for AI-generated overviews in search results.
Google's quality raters, while not directly influencing search results, play a crucial role in refining algorithms. The update does not alter the overall guidance provided to these raters. Throughout the document, minor changes were made, including typo corrections.
Google's latest Search Quality Rater Guidelines update, released in September 2025, offers webmasters and SEO specialists a clearer understanding of Google's ranking preferences. The update focuses on expanding YMYL categories, improving AI checker, and refining specific evaluation rules for AI-generated overviews.
