Google Tasks experiences a single upgrade, adding M3 Expressive functionality, now available within the web application dashboard
Google is currently rolling out a Material 3 Expressive redesign for several of its apps, including Google Drive and Find Hub. However, one app that seems to be lagging behind is Google Tasks.
Despite the app receiving some Material 3 Expressive tweaks in its Android interface, the homescreen widget for Google Tasks has yet to adopt the Material You design. As of August 2025, the latest update noted that the widget’s current layout remains the same and does not incorporate Material You elements.
While other Google apps have received Material You redesigns recently, indicating Google’s design language shift is ongoing, the update for the Google Tasks widget is still pending. Unfortunately, there is no confirmed date or announcement for when this redesign will be implemented.
On a positive note, Google has added a "Tasks" shortcut to its web app launcher, leading to tasks.google.com. Meanwhile, the Material 3 Expressive redesign for Files by Google includes an animated carousel and nav rail on phones.
In conclusion, if you want the Google Tasks homescreen widget to integrate Material You, it appears you will need to wait for a future update that Google has not yet scheduled or publicly detailed. Stay tuned for more updates on this and other Google app redesigns.
