Government Warns Apple Users About Potentially Dangerous Security Flaws in iPhones, Mac Computers, and iPads: Here's Some Advice for Staying Secure
In a recent advisory (CIVN-2025-0163), the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has raised concerns about high severity vulnerabilities found in various Apple devices. These vulnerabilities affect a wide range of Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, Macs, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and the Vision Pro headset.
The affected devices are those running older versions of Apple operating systems. For iPhone users, this includes versions prior to iOS 18.6, while iPad users should be wary of iPadOS versions older than 17.7.9 and 18.6.
Other impacted platforms include macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS, with vulnerabilities spanning multiple operating systems.
These vulnerabilities stem from memory management bugs, logic flaws, and improper privilege handling, providing attackers with the opportunity to run arbitrary code remotely, steal sensitive data, bypass security controls, or cause denial of service conditions.
Attackers could potentially exploit these vulnerabilities to gain elevated privileges, access or manipulate sensitive data, and even crash affected systems. Consequences of such exploitation could lead to data loss, broader system compromise, and reputational harm.
To protect your devices, Apple has released security patches via recent OTA updates. It is strongly recommended that all individual and enterprise Apple device users update their devices as soon as possible.
To update your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts. By doing so, you can help safeguard your data and ensure your devices are running securely.
It is important to note that this advisory does not concern the price drop of the Apple iPhone 16e during the Amazon Great Freedom Festival 2025.
